जब कभी भी देश संकट की घड़ी में होता है, तब देश के लिए सबसे बड़े फरिश्ते के रूप में कोई उभरता है. तो, वह भारतीय सेना है. सेना ने अपने सैन्य अभियान को चलाकर लोगों की जिंदगी बचाई है. केरल में आई बाढ़ में भी ‘भारतीय नौसेना’ ने एक रेस्क्यू ऑपरेशन चलाया. इस रेस्क्यू ऑपरेशन का नाम था ऑपरेशन ‘मदद. केरल के वायनाड के डिप्टी कलेक्टर के निवेदन के बाद वहां भारतीय नौसेना पहुंची. इस टीम में डाइवर्स के साथ-साथ जैमिनाई के गैस से चलने वाले बोट को मदद के लिए भेजा गया. जैमिनाई की बोट के साथ सेना की टुकड़ियाँ या टीम ने मिलकर कल्पेट्टा और वायनाड आदि प्रभावित इलाकों में शुरुआत के बचाव में ही 55 लोगों को बचा लिया. इसके बाद गंभीर हालात को देखते हुए सेना की और टीम भेजी गयी. इस टीम में जरुरत के सभी सामान के साथ जनरेटर भी भेजे गए. इस प्रकार कुल मिलकर सेना की 72 टुकड़ियाँ पूरे राज्य में फैला दी गयीं. ऑपरेशन मदद को 9 अगस्त को कोची के साउथ नेवल कमांड पर शुरू किया गया. लगातार 14 दिनों तक चले इस ऑपरेशन में नौसेना के जवानों ने 17,000 लोगों की जान बचायी है. Two teams with Gemini boats commenced rescue operations at Kalpetta and Wayanad. Besides the navy, personnel of the army, the air force and coast guard were also involved in the rescue and relief operations along with civil administration. Relief materials including fresh water, provisions, ready to eat meals and medicines were distributed in various localities. During the 14 day long rescue operation, a total of more than 16,000 people were rescued.
