Steam power was still in use in several rice mills in the Suphanburi area of Thailand in 2005-7 although it was fading rapidly. The tandem compound stationary steam engine is locally manufactured but an older than average example. The rice passes through a huller to strip the husks which will be used to fire the boiler. After separation in a series of trays, the production rice is polished. The full grains will be sold directly and the broken bits used for such products as rice noodles. I would guess that this engine is no longer be in use but I have had no reports.
