@Giant Prime Ebike (2017) - testing the battery range
THANKS FOR WATCHING AND I HOPE YOU FIND THE VIDEO INTERESTING - PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL AND GIVE ME THE THUMBS UP IF YOU DO !! I thought I would do a real battery range experiment on my Giant Prime Ebike which I recently bought, second hand. We are talking about the Giant EnergyPak 300 Rack Electric Bike Battery 36V 8800mAh 317Wh Part Number - 244M36300R-01V that is a rack carried battery for the Giant Prime electric bike / bicycle. So I thought I would put my Giant Prime ebike to the test and see just what kind of range I would get out of it using the FOUR power levels from NO assistance, ECO, NORMAL and SPORT. I should declare that I am a big guy - 19st / 265lb / 120kg - there I have bared all !! My Giant Prime is medium frame - plenty big enough for me.....I am 6ft / 1.8m. Originally I thought the guy that sold me the bike had positioned the seat too high....I lowered it but changed it back again - it felt more efficient higher! So to the range.....the Giant Prime electric bicycle has one of the smaller batteries - 36v / 320 watt so I was not expecting "the earth" but hoping for enough battery range for me to have a decent range using all of the power levels. Let me say now that an electric bike is not a "cheat"! Rather, for the occasional cyclist like me, who would avoid anything more than a gentle slope, it has opened up many new options! I have not yet found a hill that I could not cycle up and will rise to the challenge of the notorious "Old Neighbourhood" in Stroud as soon as the rain stops !! So I went out for two rides on one battery charge one of about 8 miles the other about 18 miles and found that I lost battery power when the indicator was showing I still had 3% charge. I can only think they leave some power for the lights and for the very effective "Walk Assist"? Someone else may know the answer to this? I was probably using electric assistance on my ebike for 20 of the 25 miles - on flat areas and downhill, I switched it off. And while I was a tad disappointed that I only got 25 miles - I was hoping for more - the reality is, I would be unlikely to ride more than 2 miles in a day. I did mention the possibility of taking the charger and purloining a charge at the local pub but the reality is it takes four hours to fully charge the battery for the Giant Electric Bike so the best you could hope for from a one hour charge is 25%. That being said that might still be a useful top up to ensure your ebike gets you home?
