A tour of the Nippo Maru, a 3,764grtJapanese freighter built in 1939 and sunk at Truk Lagoon during the surprise U.S. air raid Operation Hailstone by the 9 carriers of Task Force 58 on 17/18 February 1944. The wreck is in fine condition sitting upright in 45-50 metres with a Type 95 HA GO light battle tank deck cargo on the port side. The bridge still holds the telegraph and helm telemotor and her teak planking survives despite the fires that raged after she took 3 direct hits from 500-lb bombs from USN Grumman Avenger torpedo bombers.
