Sushant Singh Rajput would have been 36 years old, if it wasn't for the gruesome moment on the 14th of June 2020, when he was pronounced dead and soon Mumbai Police declared it an act of suicide. As soon as the news broke, it sent shockwaves for his fans across the world, who have only multiplied since then. On this channel, we have covered the Sushant Singh Rajput case extensively, giving you every important update, over the course of the last 2 years and today on Sushant’s 36th birthday, it’s time to revisit, how it all unfolded, why does it continue to be shrouded in mystery and most importantly, how far is the CBI in its investigation. Now, legions of Sushant’s fans never accepted the suicide theory even as stories of his alleged depression started grabbing the headlines, as the reason for his death. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s brother Mukesh Bhatt kickstarted the depression discourse by declaring that he had feared Sushant Singh Rajput was going the Parveen Babi way, because he was a “disturbed soul.” A statement that quickly came to bite him back, as his fans and many from within the industry, also rebuked this narrative. But the worst was yet to come. Till this time, the theory of Sushant’s murder was only a murmur and his last girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty was seen as a victim, who had lost her soulmate. But an FIR filed by Sushant's father on the 25th of July, changed all of that. The FIR changed the course of the case and what followed was a relentless coverage on mainstream news and on Social Media, unravelling every facet of their relationship. The FIR was filed under IPC Sections 306 which is for abetment of suicide, 341 for wrongful restraint, 342 for wrongful confinement, 380 for theft, 406 for criminal breach of trust and 420 for cheating. Based on the complaint by Sushant's father, The Enforcement Directorate also filed a case on the 31st of July. They wanted to investigate a money laundering case against Rhea, her parents and the associates. But the story took its biggest turn on the 19th of August when the Supreme Court finally instructed the CBI to take over the investigation. This came after a massive outpouring on social media over Sushant’s death and calls for the CBI inquiry. By now, more central agencies had gotten involved and Sushant’s case was being probed by three different central agencies - CBI, ED and NCB. But all is not lost yet. A small sliver of hope for his fans, friends and family, comes from that fact that in November last year, the CBI reportedly approached the United States seeking assistance in retrieving deleted data from Sushant’s email and social media accounts. This is to understand if anything happened in the past which could be linked to June 14, 2020, the day he was found dead at his apartment in Mumbai. While the CBI has generally remained tight-lipped about where the case stands, this development that happened just 2 months back reignites some hope that the case continues to be probed from all angles.
