@Ryeberg Home Movie: Pétanque Practitioners, Luxembourg Gardens, Paris
Pétanque was invented in 1910 by Jules LeNoir of the coastal, Provencal town, La Ciotat. One afternoon, he suggested playing with "les pieds tanqués au sol," in other words, with one's feet fixed to the ground. The rest is history. Of course, pétanque is a variation on raffa, bocce, boule lyonnaise, lawn bowling, and other super ancient ball games involving a target ball. It's an ideal game for people of a certain age, who feel as competitive as ever, but don't have the youthful elasticity needed for most other sports. Here in the Luxembourg Gardens, play is ongoing. 3:54, there's a good shot. Visit http://www.ryeberg.com Ryeberg publishes good essays about YouTube videos.
