Hey y'all My cousin got hitched! Unlike the normal big traditional wedding, my cousin had a small one called sitsinjana / umtsimba lomncane, meaning small wedding. Some things are done differently such as the entrance. In the normal traditional wedding, the unmarried women enter the home first via the kraal. This is done so that young men who are scouting can know who is available to ask out. In the smaller version as seen in the video, the whole bridal squad enters at the same time and heads to a rondavel known as endlini kagogo. Also, in the bigger version, the bride doesn't wear lihiya, and her headdress is elaborate. In this smaller version, the bride wears the normal regalia for married women. This is because this smaller version of the traditional wedding is usually done after "kuteka". Kuteka is when the bride is secretly married into the family without her family knowing. (Its almost like eloping, but the bride is not aware until it happens. only the groom and his family know. This is possible when the bride to be sleeps over at the groom's home. In the morning they whisk her into the kraal and the ceremony begins. In the olden days the bride's consent is not asked for, with the belief that she agrees to it when she sleeps over at the groom's home. So if you have a Swati boyfriend, don't sleep over at his place unless you want to marry him.) After the kuteka ceremony, she is pretty much married. The "sitsinjana" is more of a celebration with the bride's family now involved.
