Dear Friends I have been a nature and wild life photographer past four decades and I am a keen gardener. My small garden with 900 plants in a 150 yards has won a world record last year. Oxypetalum is commonly known as Brahmakamalam in southern parts of India but actual true Brahmakamal grows in high altitudes in Himalayan belt above 4000 meters above the see level. I have visited valley of flowers and the pristine place on earth is Hemkund Saheb placed 500 meters above the sea level, a favourite religious place for Sikh community. I was lucky to see so many Brahmakamal flowers 'Saussurea Obvallata' and photographed them, these are considered divine and cannot be grown on lower altitudes. Good thing about these flowers which resemble Cabbage, their bloom remans full day unlike Oxypetalum which blooms from 9 PM to 4 AM just for one day. On the other hand common Brahmakamalam which is very popular in South India is not true Brahmakamalam but it is one of the wild succulents. However I didn't know this drama of puja and prayers for this duplicate Brahmakamalam. Because for me every plant is divine. I had these Oxypetalums at least three varieties and they grow so wild and I have removed them many 3 decades ago; I have photographed they during their bloom, they are very beautiful, very fragrant but I had to use my portrait lights for the purpose.
