SABC's video: The Ladies Club RIKENETTE STEENKAMP

@The Ladies Club RIKENETTE STEENKAMP
On this episode of The Ladies Club we’re hosting a top track and field athlete who competes in the 100 metres hurdles. RIKENETTE STEENKAMP started running her first 60 meters sprint at a tender age of six years old and fell in love with the sport since then. She represented Africa at the 2014 IAAF Continental Cup, taking fifth, and competed for South Africa at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics. Rikenette Steenkamp’s career was on track, adding national titles to her name, and was confident of her potential to be the South African champion. But Steenkamp couldn’t ignore the excruciating pain in her leg every time she jumped over the hurdles. In 2016, doctors discovered an extra bone in her ankle which required surgery to remove and she was booked off sport for almost two years, unable to practice running or jumping. She made an impressive return in 2017, taking first place at almost every meet. In 2018 she produced another breakthrough performance, obliterating her SA 100m hurdles record with a sterling performance at the Resisprint International Track and Field meeting in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. This game-changer has certainly shattered the glass ceiling and has ventured into the world of great legends Visit our website http://www.sabc.co.za Like us on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/SABCPortal Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/SABCPortal
