HELEN BOWATER: Ship of Theseus In Helen Bowater’s ‘The Ship of Theseus’ a philosophical conundrum or thought experiment unfolds, which “questions whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains the same object. It expresses a paradox which, when applied to a human being whose cells are continually replaced, questions the sense of a single human identity over a lifetime. This paradox involves a process of gradual transformation - in this piece reflected in the gradual replacement and changes to musical material during the course of the piece.” The work is performed in this Resound film by Tosiya Suzuki.
