SOUNZ Centre for NZ Music's video: HELEN BOWATER: Ship of Theseus

@HELEN BOWATER: Ship of Theseus
HELEN BOWATER: Ship of Theseus In Helen Bowater’s ‘The Ship of Theseus’ a philosophical conundrum or thought experiment unfolds, which “questions whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains the same object. It expresses a paradox which, when applied to a human being whose cells are continually replaced, questions the sense of a single human identity over a lifetime. This paradox involves a process of gradual transformation - in this piece reflected in the gradual replacement and changes to musical material during the course of the piece.” The work is performed in this Resound film by Tosiya Suzuki. Supported by the New Zealand Japan Exchange Programme, with film editing funded by NZ On Air.
