2020 SOUNZ Contemporary | Te Tohu Auaha finalists Alex Taylor and Simon Ingram The unlikely pairing of a composer with a visual artist specialising in robots that paint has resulted in a fascinating work by Alex Taylor and Simon Ingram, the third and final work to be highlighted by way of extended interview in the lead-up to the announcement of the 2020 SOUNZ Contemporary Award | Te Tohu Auaha. Alex and Simon discuss the genesis of the work, the initial brainchild of Orchestra Wellington Music Director Marc Taddei, and how the amplified sounds of the painting robot suggested musical trajectories for the composer.
