@2020 SOUNZ Contemporary | Te Tohu Auaha finalist Celeste Oram
2020 SOUNZ Contemporary | Te Tohu Auaha finalist Celeste Oram Celeste Oram builds a pop song structure inhabited by borrowed soundworlds, old and new, onto which the improvisations of violinist Keir GoGwilt and the scored music of a trio of offstage voices are projected, in her work ‘a loose affiliation of alleluias’. The work is a finalist in the 2020 SOUNZ Contemporary Award | Te Tohu Auaha. Celeste shares with us the background, composition and execution of this immersive and genre-bending work in this Resound film from her home in San Diego. With thanks to University of California Television (UCTV) for use of film of the premiere of this work, given by the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus, conductor Steven Schick. Film funded by NZ On Air.
