Lapis Lignum's video: Japanese Toolbox - not a 25 second build video

This box is heavily inspired by the boxes built by YouTuber "treebangham" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbeDvPNFbdI who was in turn inspired by someone else as detailed in his video. I think the design is fairly old, but it uses nails which probably puts some kind of limit on exactly how old. It's a great simple box that has a locking lid an can be made with only nails and boards, no hinges, locks or handles are required. My box uses joined narrow boards (as they are easier to find than wide boards) which required the addition of the skirting boards on the ends and the vertical orientation of the end boards. The side boards overlap the bottom boards as this way all the main boards are the same width. The boards and nice dome headed nails (all 54 of them) used to build this came from pallets, the glue I bought new.
