Lapis Lignum's video: 2 X48 1 5kW 2hp Belt grinder test run

@2"X48" 1.5kW (2hp) Belt grinder test run
I've wanted a belt grinder for a while, after looking at what is available and doing lots of 2D CAD iterations I came up with this design. Some inspiration was drawn from existing grinders but this design is as simple as I could make it, most parts are lasercut from 10mm mild steel (the "frame" is a single piece of plate that bolts to the motor, the idler wheels and tension arm bolt to the same plate, hopefully minimising alignment issues. Off the shelf 50 X 5mm angle iron is used for the platen. Still needs more development but it works pretty well now, I'm not sure the skateboard bearings will last very long but I can easily upgrade to wheels with larger axles and bearings. The one piece design does have some limitations compared to a telescopic tube grinder but I can bolt a tool arm to the frame if I need this functionality. The tracking mechanism is adjustable in two dimensions Only the drive wheel is crowned. Details 1.5 kW 3 phase B5 Flange and foot mount motor (Delta wired) 1.5kW single phase in three phase out variable frequency drive 8" drive wheel "70 X 51mm longboard" idler/tracking wheels 250N gas strut Belt speed at 50Hz (the VFD won't go higher without reprogramming it) is ~5850 surface feet per minute, or 107 Km/hr. wheel offset is adjusted with washers.
