M.) ist eine Gemeinde im Kanton St. Gallen im Wahlkreis See-Gaster am Westufer des Walensees beim Linthkanal. Ihr geografisches Erscheinungsbild wurde durch die Linthkorrektion 1807–1823 markant verändert. Der Fluss Maag verlor seine Funktion als Verbindung zwischen Walensee und Linth und wurde durch den Linthkanal ersetzt, der Walensee und Zürichsee miteinander verbindet. Der Seespiegel des Walensees wurde um ca. 5 m gesenkt, wodurch zwischen dem alten Flecken Weesen und dem See eine breite Uferzone mit neuem Land entstand. Sehenswürdigkeiten: Kirche des Dominikanerinnenklosters Maria Zuflucht (1688), Heiligkreuzkirche (Bühlkirche, 15. Jh.), Pfarrkirche St. Martin im Ortsteil Fli (13. Jh.), Hotel Schwert (seit 1523 ältester Gasthof am Walensee). ============= Weesen (423 m above sea level) is a municipality in the canton of St. Gallen. It is located in the constituency of See-Gaster at the western shore of Lake Walen by the Linth Channel. The appearance of the whole municipality was significantly changed by the taming of the Linth (1807 – 1823). The river Maag lost its function as connection between Lake Walen and the Linth and was replaced by the Linth Channel, which connects Lake Walen to Lake Zurich. The water level of Lake Walen was lowered by approx. 5 m, which gave rise to a broad littoral zone and new arable land between the old hamlet of Weesen and the lake. Sights: Church of the Dominican convent Maria Zuflucht (1688), church Heiligkreuzkirche (Bühlkirche, 15th century), parish church St. Martin in the district of Fli (13th century), Hotel Schwert (since 1523 oldest inn at Lake Walen).
