Jagjit Dallewal ਦਾ Lakha Sidhana 'ਤੇ Deep Sidhu ਬਾਰੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਬਿਆਨ - Farmers Protest on 3 Agriculture Farmers look to Sir Chhotu Ram for inspiration, unionists to head for Bengal farmers protest, farmers protest live, farmers bill explained, farmers bill, farmers protest explained Sat Singh Bathinda/Garhi Sampla (Rohtak)/Ambala: Farm unionist Rakesh Tikait has announced that leaders of the ongoing agitation against the three contentious laws would tour West Bengal to “awaken” farmers in the poll-bound state about their rights. Tikait’s statement came at a mahapanchayat in Rohtak on Tuesday, called by Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) to remember Sir Chhotu Ram, who had championed farmer rights during the Britisk Era. Tikait, along with unionists Balbir Singh Rajewal, Joginder Singh Ugrahan and Gurnam Singh Charuni, spoke during the mahapanchayat called at Ram’s birthplace in Haryana, Garhi Sampla in Rohtak district, to mark Basant Panchmi. Though he was born on November 24, 1881, Ram had announced that Basant Panchami should be celebrated as his birthday. As part of this tradition, farmer groups which have been protesting against for nearly five months, held functions across Punjab and Haryana. Tikait, who is also national spokesperson of Bhartiya Kisan Union, said they were not going to Bengal to garner support in favour of any particular party. “Like the rest of the country, farmers in Bengal are not getting the right price for their crops,” he added. The day was celebrated at the protest sites on the borders of Delhi too. “Now when farmers from many parts of the country, mainly from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh are holding protests to safeguard their rights, remembering and paying respects to Sir Chhotu Ram is natural, as it is he (Chhotu Ram) who raised voice to stop exploitation of farmers and save their lands. Even today, the situation is similar to the British Era when rights of farmers were threatened. We are seeking inspiration from Chhotu Ram,” said farm leader BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) president Jagjit Singh Dallewal, in a speech he gave at the Singhu border protest site. Charuni, who also spoke in Garhi Sampla, said they would ask farmers to not vote in favour of political parties which draft laws against them. In Ambala, activists of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Haryana) marked the day by speaking to motorists about the Centre’s agriculture-marketing laws and gifting them roses at Devi Nagar toll plaza on Shambhu border. Farmers said they also did this to remind motorists that they were not terrorists and just protesting for their rights and those of the country and future generations. “Sir Chhotu Ram had written so much about the condition of farmers that his writings became instrumental in formulating and passing the APMC Act,” said BKU (Ekta Dakonda) general secretary Jagmohan Singh, while talking to TOI. A farm leader from Haryana, Abhimanyu Kohad, said Sir Chhotu Ram had ensured Ram Rajya for farmers while fighting British imperialist forces, but now they were fighting their own. “It is high time we follow the footsteps of Chhotu Ram and take the farmer struggle to its logical conclusion by forcing the government to repeal the farm laws,” he said. BOXES ‘PM should apologise’ Asked about the uproar over him calling Lord Hanuman an ‘andolanjivi’, farm unionist Rakesh Tikait said anyone who stood against injustice being inflicted on others was a true fighter. “Hanuman had crossed seas to reach Lanka for Lord Ram. He did that for his mentor Ram, not for himself, so branding Hanuman ‘andolanjivi’ is not wrong on my part,” he said. He added if at all someone should offer an apology for coining the term andolanjivi, it was Prime Minister Modi. Basant Panchami mahapanchayat A mahapanchayat in Rohtak’s Garhi Sampla, called to pay tributes to Sir Chhotu Ram on Basant Panchami, was attended by people from both Punjab and Haryana. A 64-foot-tall statue of Chhotu Ram on Rohtak-Delhi road remained the center of attraction for participants Folk artists from Haryana and Punjab entertained the public. Slogans supporting farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were raised.
