Aam Aadmi Party ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਝਟਕਾ, Sukhpal Khaira ਧੜੇ ਦੇ AAP ਨੇਤਾ ਦਾ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ, On poll pitch, AAP Amritsar candidate lists challenges, After the announcement of the names of candidates for the five Lok Sabha seats in Punjab by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its Amritsar nominee, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, has come into election mode and is preparing to get his election office opened to start campaign. Talking to TOI on Wednesday, Dhaliwal said rampant drug abuse, plights of farmers and business community were the major challenges before him. “Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced to set up an international university and an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Amritsar. But both were shifted to other places. We need to have such institutions in our city,” he said. Speaking about the health and education services, he said: “Amristar is known as a holy city, but has worst health and education system which required immense changes.” On Tuesday, AAP had announced names of its five Lok Sabha candidates, including Dhaliwal, who will be contesting from Amritsar. The other four candidates are Bhagwant Mann (Sangrur), Sadhu Singh (Faridkot), Ravjot Singh (Hoshiarpur) and Narinder Singh Shergil (Anandpur Sahib). Dhaliwal, a farmer, started his political career as a student leader and was later elected as the sarpanch of Jagdev Kalan village. A former member of the Congress, Dhaliwal was a member of the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board during the Congress government under the leadership of Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. He had migrated to the US where he remained for 13 years and also acquired American citizenship, which he claims to have renunciated. Dhaliwal had joined AAP in 2015 as joint secretary, state vice-president, halqa in charge of Ajnala, president Mazha Zone, before being selected as party candidate for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. When asked about the dissent in the party, he said: “There is internal bickering in all political parties in Punjab. You can see what is happening in SAD and how its senior leaders are distancing them from party leadership and the Congress also sails in the same boat. There is resentment among several Congress MLA’s against their own leadership and a little bit of bickering exists in our party also.” He said his focus would be to raise people’s issues and not get strayed away with cheap political tactics. “Unemployment, drugs, farmers’ suicides and inflation are some of the issues which require immediate attention,” he said. He said Bhagwant would soon visit Amritsar to inaugurate his election office and would begin campaigning. “Later, party president Arvind Kejriwal will also visit the constituency,” he said. When asked about AAP leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, he said he would invite him. “He is a member of the party and we will invite him to campaign," said Dhaliwal.
