Much of the mental confusion and the present and future troubles can be removed by the ready recognition of the simple fact that in Hindusthan only the Hindus form the nation and the national structure must be built on that safe and sound foundation…the nation itself must be built up of Hindus, on Hindu traditions, culture, ideas and aspirations”. (b) Muslims and Christians not part of Hindu nation According to the proponent of Hindutva, Savarkar, Muslims and Christians remained out of this nationhood because they did not assimilate into Hindu cultural heritage or adopt Hindu religion. Savarkar decreed: "Christians and Mohamedan [sic] communities, who were but very recently Hindus…cannot be recognized as Hindus; as since their adoption of the new cult they had ceased to own Hindu Sanskriti [culture] as a whole. They belong, or feel that they belong, to a cultural unit altogether different from the Hindu one. Their heroes and their hero-worship, their fairs and their festivals, their ideals and their outlook on-life, have now ceased to be common with ours." It could have been due to the ideological framework (where missionary work didn’t fit as in the case of Marxist historians), or due to their extensive reliance on colonial government records (e.g. Cambridge Historians) ignoring other type of records, or even just bias (as in the case of many nationalist historians). Irrespective of the reasons, the damage caused by this exclusion has been collateral across all spectrum of society including church. Christians, Christian institutions and missionaries have been considered as inconsequential or even worst as agents of colonial powers/ Western nations intending to break India (e.g. the book “Breaking India” by BJP appointed guest faculty of JNU, Rajiv Malhotra). Sadly, as Christians are also largely ignorant about the missionary contributions in society, they have also started believing that their role is limited to preaching the Gospel without intervening in the society. At this juncture, SAN decided to start conducting public programs and academic seminars in 2018. Over the last 2 years, we have conducted about 70 + programs in different parts of India. Apart from internal resource persons, we had eminent personalities from all walks of life contributing to the lectures (Justice Kurien Joseph, Former Justice of Supreme Court, James Varghese IAS, Former Additional Chief Secretary of Kerala, Rev Valson Thambu, Former Principal of St Stephen’s College, Delhi, Prof. Dr. SM Michael, Director of Institute of Indian Culture under Mumbai University who is also a consultant to the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Inter- Religious Dialogue, etc).
