Sandor Lau's video: Mountaintop Surprise Engagement

There's only one person I'd carry a rock up to the top of a mountain for. Thought I would surprise Julie with a little proposal on the summit of Mt. Stuart, 9,415ft/2,870m in central Washington, USA, Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Amazingly, we were able to keep the conspiracy with the other four members of the climb team a secret until the perfect mountaintop moment. I also brought my journal from when we started dating two and a half years ago when I saved an entire page to write just one thing, ""I'm going to marry this girl."" She said yes! We popped the seltzer water bubbly. Thank you to Rico Micallef, Scott Auble, Ian McClusky, and Katie Polanshek for great photos and video, and Julie Kentosh for leading a great climb and being my favorite. We took the arduous but non-technical rock scramble route up the Cascadian Couloir. This was Julie's first climb lead as a fully-fledged Mazamas climb leader, assisted by Uncle Rico who has taught us to be the climbers we are today. Lock down has been tough, and planning a safe wedding is going to be a challenge, but this feels great still finding a way forward. Every day is precious. Traditional lands of the Yakama people.
