Born in 1861, Rabindranath Tagore stands as a towering figure of the Bengal Renaissance, his legacy woven intricately into the cultural fabric of Bengal. Tagore was a poet, songwriter, playwright, essayist, short story writer, and novelist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913, and his verse collection Gitanjali garnered international acclaim. It was around this time that Tagore founded Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan, near Kolkata. Tagore was a pioneering literary figure with an extensive body of work . He is also the author of the national anthems of both India and Bangladesh. AUTHOR : Radha Chakravarty is a poet, critic and translator. She previously taught Comparative Literature & Translation Studies at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi and has published more than 20 books, including The Essential Tagore, nominated 'Book of the Year 2011'. Chakravarty's translations of Rabindranath Tagore's works include Gora, Chokher Bali, Boyhood Days, Farewell Song, Four Chapters, and The Land of Cards. Her most recent work Subliminal: Poems marks her debut volume of poetry. Presented by Dr. Gautam Choubey, 'Likhawat' is a show about the books of Bharat - written in many languages, published in different parts of the country, yet rooted in the singularity of Indian ethos. Each episode of Likhawat will take up a book of national resonance and will feature a special guest who is privy to the intimate story of the book as it was imagined, written, published and read.
