It is also called Nombu Kanji / Masala Nombu Kanji . This rice ganji or porridge is a very popular iftar menu item as its light and easy to digest as its cooked really well to a soft consistency and at the same time very nutritious as it contains rice as carbohydrates and protein in the form of moong dal and kheema . This dish is relished by many people and becomes a ramadan season staple in many households. This can be made using sooji / semolina or even oats. Ramzan ki Aash is made on a large scale and distributed to fasting people .The Ganji or Aash is generally made using minced meat . This Kheeme ki Aash has now become a very staple diet of fasting people. This recipe is really simple to make yet very tasty with a combination of simple spices and herbs. To make this Rice Ganji /Masala Ganji / Masala Aash I have used fragrant rice zeerak samba which is small grained and oval in shape. This rice adds to the taste and wonderful aroma of the rice porridge . Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add the whole garam masala, then add chopped onions and fry till transparent. then some mint leaves , chopped coriander and green chillies are added. Fry this for a minute and then add ginger garlic paste , followed by turmeric and chilli powder and salt.. Add the kheema and fry for a few minutes, then add the rice, roasted moong dal, coconut, a chopped tomato and sufficient amount of water. Close the lid and allow it to pressure cook until done .
