This meaning is only understood by the natives and interestingly sometimes even not by the native speakers. The reason is that this expression or phrase called “Idiom” has a “Figurative” meaning and can’t be understood until someone tells you what it means and how it used in the language. An idiom can never be translated word for word, hence can’t be learnt with the help of a dictionary.
