After numerous delays brought about by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally kicked off its Phase 4 in January with WandaVision debuting on Disney+. The show's premiere ushered in a new era for the franchise, taking the property in fresh and exciting directions. There's still a full slate of new movies and TV series to come, with Marvel looking to add to their ever-growing lineup of characters (Eternals, Shang-Chi, etc.) and continuing to develop familiar faces (Thor: Love and Thunder, Loki, etc.). It’s official: Marvel’s Eternals is becoming a Phase 4 movie and we got some solid information about this installment out of SDCC 2019. Chloe Zhao (Songs My Brother Taught Me) will direct the Eternals movie. Zhao was apparently at one point under consideration to direct Marvel’s Black Widow movie, as well (the job eventually went to Cate Shortland). The cast is as follows: Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and Angelina Jolie as Thena. Gemma Chan will play Sersi. Ms. Chan played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, but that won’t stop her from taking a more substantial role in Eternals. Kit Harrington will play Dane Whitman, known to Marvel fans as The Black Knight. The Starks have been reunited in the MCU! You can learn more about Marvel’s Black Knight right here & Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, Chernobyl) will play the film’s villain, Druig. One aspect to the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.” When Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. took on The Eternals in 2006, Sersi was a central character, albeit one who didn’t remember her immortal heritage.
