@[Traffic Cam & Scanner] Man climbs supports structure of Aurora Bridge
One October 2nd, 2019, a 25 year old barefoot man climbed onto the support structures of the Aurora Bridge in north Seattle. He spent two hours climbing the structure before he climbed down on the far side and was taken into custody. I watched most of this live on the traffic cameras, and there were definitely a few times where I thought I was about to watch a person die. This video was edited from about 2 hours of footage, but it's still pretty long (sorry). Video highlights for those with short attention spans: 1:20 – First view of the subject on the bridge. What appears to be one of his socks can be seen flying off toward the right side of the screen. 3:01 – Subject is seen dangling from a support 3:35 - Camera zooms out to show how far up the subject is 5:03 - Float plane photobomb 6:06 - Subject makes precarious crossing of narrow diagonal support strut 6:42 – Subject makes his way onto protruding spar (like Luke Skywalker at Cloud City) 8:20 – Some non-verbal communication 10:49 – Brief look at SPD’s negotiator truck 11:48 – Subject climbs vertical support structure 13:12 – Subject crosses what looks like extremely narrow ledge on the outside of structure 14:04 – “Can you just stress, we just want an engine and a ladder, we don’t want … everybody.” 14:31 – Seattle Police Harbor Patrol Boat 2 is visible on scene 14:48 – SFD Battalion 4 is seen responding in their brand new rig 15:04 – Subject can be seen climbing down a ladder to the ground 15:26 – ‘Negotiator 1’ reports one in custody https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/man-who-climbed-aurora-bridge-for-2-hours-arrested-by-seattle-police/ Units on "Rescue Rope" call - Initial dispatch: Rescue 1, Ladders 6 & 8, Engines 8 & 20, Aid Units 2 & 14, Medics 18 & 44 (Medical chief), Battalions 2 & 6, Safety Chief (SAFT2) Additional units: Fireboat 1, Aid 2, Ladder 4, Engine 9, Public Information Officer (PIO) Units added due to Rescue Swimmer request from incident commander: Engine 11, Ladder 12
