Cain's 9-9-9 tax plan would raise taxes on 84% of U.S. households, according to an independent analysis by The Tax Policy Center. TPC says low- and middle-income families would be hit hardest, with households making between $10,000 and $20,000 seeing their taxes increase by nearly 950%. "You're talking a $2,700 tax increase for people with incomes between $10,000 and $20,000," said Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center. "That's huge." Among those in the middle, households making between $40,000 and $50,000 would see their taxes increased by an average of $4,400, the report said. Those making between $50,000 and $75,000 would see their annual tax bill go up by an average of $4,326. Example: In Arizona, where someone currently pays a 9.01% sales tax, they would now be paying a 18.01% sales tax. That's ridiculous. That means $18.01 in tax for every $100 spent, instead of $9.01 under the current system. It more than doubles sales taxes in 47 states! Four states currently have no state sales tax (OR, MT, NH, DE) and they would see a dramatic rise to 9.00%. Alaska has a minimal sales tax of 1.12% which would increase to 10.12% under Cain's plan. No state in the nation currently has a sales tax that high. This is just sales tax, they still hit you with local taxes, property taxes, and the federal income tax! Herman Cain won't be able to control the buzzards in Washington, DC from increasing these rates over time either. They've never seen a tax they didn't like and expand upon.
