Senga Lindsay's video: May 4 11 Senga s Vlog - How to Release Queen Into Bee Hive

@May 4/11 Senga's Vlog - How to Release Queen Into Bee Hive
For more information www.sengadesigns.com Home of the Gardening Gourmets - watch our TV pilot called the Garden Gourmets (google: senga lindsay garden gourmets) and tell us what you think! Today I went up on edible green roof to check my new bee hived I just hived weeks previously. I left the queen bee in her cage in order for the worker bees to get used to her scent and not want to kill her. Now comes the day to release her into the hive. Normally queens are kept in small cages with sugar plugs to keep them from escaping. And over time the workers eat through the sugar plugs in order to release her. The delay in eating through such a cork allows the workers time to get used to her phermones.. This cage from New Zealand has a cork in it which makes it a bit more tricky hence the need to keep her in her cage for a while before physically uncorking the cage. The tricky part is uncorking her cage and preventing her from flying away and losing my hive. Watch my vlog to see how to do this.
