El Padre Pio , también conocido como San Pío de Pietrelcina (en italiano : Pio da Pietrelcina ), (25 de mayo de 1887 - 23 de septiembre de 1968), fue un fraile italiano , sacerdote , estigmatista y místico , ahora venerado como un santo en el católico Iglesia . Nacido Francesco Forgione , se le dio el nombre de Pío ( italiano : Pio ) cuando se unió a la Orden de los Frailes Menores Capuchinos . El Padre Pio se hizo famoso por exhibir estigmas durante la mayor parte de su vida, generando así mucho interés y controversia. Fue beatificado (1999) y canonizado (2002) por el Papa Juan Pablo II . [2] El Santuario de San Pío de Pietrelcina se encuentra en San Giovanni Rotondo , provincia de Foggia , Italia .
