गोरखा रेजिमेंट की शुरुआत 1815 में हुई थी. उस दौरान यह रेजिमेंट ब्रिटिश इंडियन आर्मी का हिस्सा थी. बाद में जब भारतीय थल सेना वजूद में आई तो इसका नाम ‘गोरखा रेजिमेंट’ रखा गया. युद्ध में अपनी बहादुरी और अक्रामकता के लिए पहचाने जाने वाले ‘गोरखा’ भारतीय सेना के सबसे बेहतरीन सैनिकों में से एक माने जाते हैं. अपनी निडरता के चलते इस रेजिमेंट को भारतीय सेना द्वारा कई महत्वपूर्ण पदक और सम्मानों से नवाज़ा जा चुका है. हर देश की सेना के लिए यह ज़रुरी होता है कि उसके सैनिक बेखौफ होकर लड़ें, ताकि दुश्मन के हर नापाक मंसूबों पर पानी फेरा जा सकें. गोरखा रेजिमेंट के सिपाहियों को इसमें अव्वल माना जाता है. ‘खुकरी’ गोरखा सिपाही की पहचान भारतीय सेना में हर रेजिमेंट की एक खास पहचान होती है. जैसे कुमांऊ रेजिमेंट की पहचान ‘शेर’ के सिंबल से होती है. डोगरा रजिमेंट की पहचान ‘चीते’ से होती है. ********************************************************************************************************************** Gorkha Regiment was started in 1815.
