@Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Crossroads of Time (GEN/MD) [3/3]
We're all gonna die! Gurgey's taken up attack formation and rigged DS9 with more lovely explosives. So Sisko plans to infiltrate his ship, but can't so they're doomed. That is, until Sisko goes back in time, or at least in his consciousness, back to another time where everyone was REALLY screwed: The Battle of Wolf 359. BORG BORG BORG. Then Odo, our last brief playable character, infiltrates the ship as a clever swine and porcupine. Sisko drops in and hacks the crap out of the ship, Gurgey escapes and sets his ship to self-destruct, and Sisko hacks the crap out of that too. Dukat drops in and denies involvement, and everyone lives happily ever after until 20 minutes later. - The Battle of Wolf 359, originally the first stage in the game. Something of a tough labyrinth the first time around, easy as cake afterward. Then the last stage of the game. I find it baffling that those vents can kill, and even though you can hack each console, only the ones I hacked actually do anything. It's critical not to take any damage throughout the stage, as a near-full health bar is necessary to survive the final part, and there's nothing in the stage to rebuild health. This makes the next-to-last room a colossal pain in the ass. Then there's the last room, which I'm surprised I managed to finish on the first recording of it. Overall, the game is not horrible nor does it rank high. But it did enough to make me want to reach the end. Definitely did not agree with the design choices on the last part or the generator escape sequence, the latter more than the former. But GiantBomb did consider it "An excellent and long-forgotten action platformer with a Star Trek theme" saying it feels like a Star Trek episode. Anyone interested in game design should checkout this page, where the lead game designer, Maurice Molyneaux documents what happened behind the scenes of this game. Things that could've been in the game, changed, and even having to correct the people with the Star Trek license. Interesting stuff: http://molyneaux.tripod.com/mm-ds9.htm The Saratoga level was supposed to be at the beginning, and was probably the only part of the game that reflected his original intentions. Personally I think it serves great as a next-to-last level section. - Stages: 0:04 - Module Saratoga 4:51 - Saratoga 16:57 - Module Cardassian 17:35 - Cardassian Corridors 19:03 - Cardassian Navigator 22:03 - Cardassian Defender 24:50 - Cardassian Weapon 25:45 - Module End
