We have to talk about Matt’s statement but before we get started… As always… This is a HUGE development in the controversy currently surrounding bachelor nation… Matt had previously made some comments on the situation but he’s now shared a lengthy statement on instagram! He started his statement by addressing the fact that he’s had a very challenging time over the past few weeks, and while the season is of course still airing he felt it was important to address some troubling information that has come to light since they wrapped… DISCUSS: before we dive into the statement, what to we make of the timing? Matt called out directly the QUOTE: incredibly disappointing photos of Rachael Kirkconnell and the interview between Rachel Lindsay and Chris Harrison… He said: “Chris's failure to receive and understand the emotional labor that my friend Rachel Lindsay was taking on by graciously and patiently explaining the racist of the Antebellum South, a painful that every American should understand immediately, was troubling and painful to watch.” DISCUSS: this feels like while he’s clearly calling out Chris it also sheds some light on what he thought of the Rachel photos…. He continued his statement just as forcefully calling out the overall issues in the franchise saying they have fallen short for years... DISCUSS: Obviously they have...this season was SUPPOSED to be a huge step forward but its just exposed how off the mark they truly are... Matt also revealed that he has reevaluated his own experience in the franchise and what it represents not just for himself but for QUOTE: all of the contestants of color, especially the Black contestants of this season and seasons past, and for the viewers at home. He closed his statement saying: I will continue to process this experience, and you will hear more from me in the end. My greatest prayer is that this is an inflection point that results in real and institutional change for the better. DISCUSS: Do we think the show can bounce back?
