Painting over a laminate counter is a relatively inexpensive and simple way to change up the color- and its a fun creative way to put your own personal touch on your home. I am re-decorating my situation room and this is the beginning. When painting your laminated counter top you will need to think about color that will still look good if you don't change anything for a long time. Once you decided on the base color that you are happy with, get some good accent colors to highlight your counter top and give it a granite effect. Before you begin your counter top painting, you should get a really clear idea of what you want the end product to look like. I wanted a very dramatic look in "MY SITUATION ROOM" as it was going to serve 2 purposes. one was to be a background studio effect for my video recording, the other was to highlight my makeup collection and all my favorite things on display. So I decided to do a black based color with gold and red accents. I also add some glitter paint in the mix. Remember to be creative and have fun with it. step one.... Deep clean the counter top with soap and water- then lightly sand, then prime your counter top with a base color acrylic paint. I used black. Let it dry over night. step two... Lay down your accent acrylic colors randomly as faux painting all over the counter top. Have fun with this step. Let your creativity shine! Let dry for at least 5 hours. step three.... Apply at least 2-3 coats of a polyurethane letting it dry for 24 hours between each coat. I used min-wax, fast drying polyurethane. Now sit back and enjoy your new creation! what you will need for this job..... acrylic paints, you can get at any craft store or department store like walmart. polyurethane gloves sponges a small roller brush and pan a good ventilation in the room- fan, AC or open windows.
