POV: You’re a Chinese mum at a Chinese restaurant thinking you can cook most of the dishes on the menu better at home. It’s an interesting phenomenon going out to eat with my parents, their number one will always be Cantonese cuisine, but part of the meal will always be dedicated to an intense audit of the menu checking out the prices, the types of dishes and figuring out how many of those can be recreated better at home which ultimately would lead to a ban from us ordering it 😂
ALSO STORYTIME OF THE BTS. I’m shameless anyway when it comes to filming in public but definitely now have skin as thick as pomelo. My poor boyfriend got front row seats of me acting out this one woman show in the middle of a busy Chinese restaurant pretending to speak agitatedly to 3 of our imaginary children in Cantonese. He’d whisper between each take “what did you say now?” (your girl studied A Level drama so I’m FULL ON STANISLAVSKI in character, okay 🤌🏽)
The servers kept coming over to serve us and were awkwardly like ??? who are you talking to ??? does your boyfriend understand Cantonese ??? The tables next to us just stared and looked bewildered but I couldn’t break character while the cardi was on 😂😂😂 THEN had to take the cardigan off throughout so I could film my “what I order at dim sum” video at the same time. Give this woman an Oscar, whew.
Also special big shout out to Mumma Shu who was the executive producer on this by voice noting me more examples of phrases she would use and asked if I could omit the swear words in between every sentence that she’d typically use so she would sound more polite xoxo. I’m obviously further cementing my position as her favourite daughter with every video I make inspired by her.
