How to make cheung fun at home (rice noodle rolls) 🍚 🍜 I can finally make cheung fun at home and not just eat it at dim sum restaurants! A family friend bought this CUTE pink rice noodle roll steamer online and it has a top compartment for steaming normally and three metal trays for cheung fun/chee cheung fun/bánh cuốn. I’m still figuring out the perfect recipe, this is the one I’m using for now: CHEUNG FUN RECIPE: - 2 cups of speciality rice flour - 1 and a half cups of water - small drizzle of oil Bought the rice flour from an Asian supermarket! Marinate desired fillings of king prawns and short rib - all sliced and diced finely so it’s quick to steam. You can also have it without and add hoisin and sesame sauce afterwards too. Oil the tray then add about 1 and a half ladles of the mixture and even it out. Add 1 1/2 tbsp of filling (concentrated on the lower third of the tray). This isn’t typical in Cantonese cheung fun but I also added coriander and spring onion… because I can! Pre-steam the rice noodle roll machine then set the timer to 30-40 mins - depending on how many rounds of it you want to make. Slide in the metal tray, wait for 5-8 minutes depending on your filling or until you see the cheung fun texture firm up and raise bubbles. You’re meant to let it cool down a little before using provided plastic scraper to roll it into a rice roll… but I was too hungry and excited and didn’t… and it disintegrated a bit. Add light soy sauce and sriracha then ENJOY! Texture wise, I’d say I made it a lot lighter this time round so the texture reminded me of bánh cuốn but I actually prefer a lighter texture! I’ll keep experimenting! WHERE TO BUY A CHEUNG FUN RICE NOODLE ROLL MAKER: Amazon, Taobao or AliExpress. It’s more expensive on Amazon but easier to get hold off. If it’s the last two, there will be custom charges. Might this replace my love for the air fryer?
