Signal Hill Productions's video: MEC 370 GP40 High-Hood w TERRIBLE Horn

MEC 370 (EMD GP40) leads the local switcher FI-1 (Pan Am Railways) through Shirley, Massachusetts, first en route to Ayer, then en route to Fitchburg. I don't think of myself as a horn snob, but, damn, does the horn on this thing sound awful. I think it's a Leslie RS3. MEC 370 was built in 1966 by Electro-Motive Diesel (General Motors) for the Norfolk and Western Railway (NW 1336). In 1982 the Norfolk and Western merged with the Southern Railway to form what would eventually become the Norfolk Southern Railway; thus, our locomotive was renumbered (NS 1336). She was acquired by the Maine Central Railroad Company (Guilford Rail System) in the late 1990s. As a GP40, MEC 370 weighs in at 245,000 pounds (111,000 kilograms) and produces up to 3,000 horsepower (2,240 kilowatts); these weight and power numbers yield a starting tractive effort of 62,500 pounds (278 kilonewtons) and a continuous tractive effort of 54,700 pounds (243 kilonewtons) at 11.1 mph (18 km/h).
