Simply Seth's video: Western Yellow-Bellied Racer Snake Northern California

Wife and I were out hiking in Robert Louis Stevenson State Park in Napa County along the Table Rock trail, when she heard something slither. I got out my camera and started recording. The Western Yellow-Bellied Racer snake was being harassed by a Yellow Jacket that kept buzzing about the snake, so it seemed to be trying to find the best way out of there to avoid the pesky bee. At one point in the video, the hiking stick I was holding onto, slipped out of my hand and fell into a poison oak bush. Evidently, the vibration on the ground caused by my falling stick alarmed the snake, which then in a defensive tactic, mimicked a rattlesnake by vibrating its tail against some dry leaves, making a convincing rattling sound. Such a beautiful wonder of nature!
