Dick Balch ran his own Chevrolet dealership in Federal Way, WA, from 1969 to 1980. He appeared in in a slew of his own TV commercials, cackling like an idiot as he'd take a sledgehammer to his brand new cars. It worked, too. Time magazine (7/31/72) ran a story that claimed that in the first half of that year, Balch managed to sell 1,586 cars, grossing $4.5 million.
