Website owners don't realize how important these tags are. Well, there is one meta tag that is completely useless and not used by the search engines at all. I tell you which one that is so you won't have to waste time filling it in. As for the others, they give the searcher a first impression of your website. They're in search mode, and they're looking for a solution or more information about a specific topic. This is where you have a chance to attract their attention and get them to click on your listing. The better you are at getting people to click on your listing, the more that will help you increase your position on the results page for that given keyword search. Google keeps track of which listings get clicked on the most, and they figure that if a certain listing gets clicked more, then that listing must be more relevant than the others, so it will move the listing closer to the top. There are some guidelines and strategies for writing out your meta tags so you can get the best results.
