Soka Gakkai Official's video: Planting One Amazonian Tree in Honor of Each COVID-19 Victim in Brazil

Over 150,000 trees will be planted to honor every precious life lost to the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil, in a project launched in September 2020 by the Soka Institute of the Amazon near Manaus. The trees will be planted over a four-year period and will contribute to reforestation in the Amazon region. The project is funded by Fundação Rede Amazônica, charitable arm of the main TV station in the region. The Soka Institute of the Amazon was founded in 1992 by Buddhist philosopher and peacebuilder Daisaku Ikeda. The center carries out research on conservation of the global ecosystem, runs a seedbank of Amazonian tree species and undertakes reforestation initiatives and environmental education. The Soka Institute is supported by Brazil Soka Gakkai International (BSGI), which helped to create this project.
