@Bach's Chromatic Fantasy in D minor, played by Leon Fleisher
____________________ “But what is the sense in forever speculating what might have happened had such and such a moment turned out differently? One could presumably drive oneself to distraction in this way. In any case, while it is all very well to talk of ‘turning points’, one can surely only recognize such moments in retrospect. Naturally, when one looks back to such instances today, they may indeed take the appearance of being crucial, precious moments in one’s life; but of course, at the time, this was not the impression one had. Rather, it was as though one had available a never-ending number of days, months, years in which to sort out the vagaries of one’s relationship with her [Miss Kenton in this case]; an infinite number of further opportunities in which to remedy the effect of this or that misunderstanding. There was surely nothing to indicate at the time that such evidently small incidents would render whole dreams forever irredeemable.” Kazuo Ishiguro, The Remains of the Day * * * * Some years ago I watched this film and was much amazed, and thought who on earth writes this theme in such deep manner. This is not an usual plot, about the story of an English butler, loyal to his profession and his master, failed to grasp an opportunity to love a lady... when searching back his past, he begins to see everywhere those ‘turning points’ that he missed, perhaps with much regrets! Kazuo Ishiguro, the writer, is the Nobel literature laureate 2017. Well I promise myself (why not) to read this novel, and finally I did it, and what can I say, it is haunting... The whole story in the novel, provides much more pensive details than the film (that's always the case), and Ishiguro's superb writings, all these stay inside me for sometime! _____________________ About the music : According to Forkel (the biographer of Bach), “When Bach played from his fancy, all twenty-four keys were within his power; he did with them what he pleased. He connected the most remote as easily and as naturally together as the nearest; the hearer believed he had modulated with the compass of a single key. He knew nothing of harshness in modulation; even his transitions in the chromatic style were as soft and flowing as if he had wholly confined himself to the diatonic scale.” (source : Clifford Bartlett) I hope you also like this photo too : the light blue there and the setting, speechless ... _____________________
