Infectious conjunctivitis encompasses bacterial conjunctivitis, caused by bacteria like Streptococcus pneumoniae or Staphylococcus aureus, and viral conjunctivitis, often triggered by viruses like adenovirus. The latter is highly contagious, leading to redness, discomfort, and watery discharge. Another form is allergic conjunctivitis, which emerges due to allergens such as pollen, dust mites, or pet dander.
