@Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Ultimate Edition [PC]: Chapter 1-1 - Besieged Village
Ah, yes. Castlevania! Aside from playing a few of the first NES games in the series as well as a bit of Super Castlevania 4 when I was younger, the last time I played a recent game from that series was "Dawn of Sorrow" for the NDS. It is a lovely surprise to finally have a PC port for [what I think is] a damn good game that actually works excellently and plays well to boot! Thank You Konami for getting it right! Now be forewarned: Fighting and platforming aren't exactly my forté, but I will try my best to not make this [very tentative] gameplay series so damn sucky, as this is actually one of my favorite games. As usual, in case this is the first time watching or even hearing about this game, be aware that spoilers are abound! And now, as always, the synopsis: It is the end of days and ungodly powers isolate the Earth. The world's alliance with the heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force - the mysterious Lords of Shadow. Across this shattered land, the souls of the dead wander unable to find peace, whilst creatures of evil wreak chaos and death upon the living. Gabriel Belmont is a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protect and defend the innocent against the supernatural. His beloved wife was brutally murdered by the evil forces of darkness and her soul trapped for eternity. Neither living nor dead she realizes the horrific truth of what is at stake and guides Gabriel to his destiny and hopefully salvation for the world. ___ This stage is easy enough after a few tries. The smaller wolves [Lycans] are relatively weak, so it's only a matter of keeping your distance using wide-area attacks. Don't forget to replenish your health at the fountain if you need to. The grappling ability makes this a million times easier to plow through. Make good use of it if you have it. For the big werewolf [The Warg], knives will come in handy as they have a weakness against them. Use them as much as you can to deal some damage. Blocking and counter-attacking will also become very useful here. It's a tricky technique to get right, but if you don't get it right by now, you're gonna have a harder time in later levels. Watch its movements: Each time it raises its claws is a perfect chance to block and counter its attacks. Pay attention to the light being given off in its mouth, as that attack is unblockable. The moment you see it, get ready to dodge it immediately. Once you start picking up on the Warg's patterns near the end, keep hitting it hard until its health is down by a considerable amount. What happens next is pretty self-explanatory, but if you somehow manage to miss the timing, be prepared to knock it down again a few more times. ___ Video captured using DxTory Video Capture Software at 720p resolution, using the Lagarith Lossless CODEC at 30 Frames Per Second with RGBA color sampling.
