Does minoxidil really work for hair loss? How long do you need to use it for? What happens if you stop? and what are the side effects? The answer coming up. Topical minoxidil is used in the treatment of male pattern hair loss in men, and female pattern hair loss in women. It is also use in some other forms of hair loss and after hair replacement surgery or chemotherapy. Minoxidil does not work for everyone. Treatment for hair loss depends on the cause. In some cases, treating the cause will treat the problem. The sooner you find the cause, the better your outcome, the less hair you will lose and the more successful treatment (or prevention) tends to be. So, if you haven’t seen your doctor to work out why you are losing hair, make sure you do so asap. So, if your doctor has suggested to use minoxidil, here are some of things you need to know. Minoxidil comes in many different brands, some more common and famous brands are like Regaine and Rogaine. Generic brands are usually cheaper. It usually comes either in a foam or solution. It comes in 2 strengths which is 2% and 5%. 5% maybe more effective but it also may cause more irritation. It is applied to the affected area of the scalp once or twice daily for a minimum of 6 months. If it is found effective then it may be continued for long term. You would usually see results in approximately 4 months into the treatment and Generally the hair that grows out is thinner and finer than the original hair. Follow your doctor's instruction or the directions on the label. Hair loss may continue for 2 weeks after you start using minoxidil. Tell your doctor if your hair loss continues after 2 weeks. Also, tell your doctor if your hair growth does not increase after using minoxidil for 4 months. It is important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure that this medicine is working properly and to check for unwanted side effects. Tell your doctor if you notice continued itching, redness, rash or burning of your scalp after you apply minoxidil. These side effects are not common. If the itching, redness, or burning is severe, wash the medicine off and check with your doctor before using it again. Some of the rare side effects of minoxidil are 1. Acne at site of application 2. facial hair growth 3. increased hair loss 4. inflammation or soreness at root of hair 5. swelling of face Signs and symptoms of too much medicine being absorbed into the body are very very rare. These rare side effects 1. Blurred vision or other changes in vision 2. chest pain 3. dizziness 4. fainting 5. fast or irregular heartbeat 6. flushing 7. headache 8. lightheadedness 9. numbness or tingling of hands, feet, or face 10. swelling of face, hands, feet, or lower legs 11. rapid weight gain Now besides a pharmacist and running this channel, I am also a singer songwriter and an actress.
