The Ballet Of The Red Shoes Choreography by Robert Helpmann The part of the shoemaker created and danced by Leonide Massine Based on the fairy tale "The Red Shoes" by Hans Christian Andersen Moira Shearer, Lady Kennedy (17 January 1926 -- 31 January 2006), was an internationally famous Scottish ballet dancer and actress. Sir Robert Helpmann CBE (9 April 1909 -- 28 September 1986) was an Australian dancer, actor, theatre director and choreographer. In 1964 he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). In 1965 he was named "Australian of the Year", and in 1968 he was appointed a Knight Bachelor. Leonid Fyodorovich Myasin, better known in the West by the French transliteration as LĂ©onide Massine (9 August [O.S. 28 July] 1896 -- 15 March 1979) was a Russian choreographer and ballet dancer. Inducted into the National Museum of Dance C.V. Whitney Hall of Fame in 2002.
