@Pranab Mukherjee talks on EVM Hacking - Elections 2019 Results
Pranab mukherjee talks on EVM Hacking. A day after lauding the Election Commission of India (ECI) for ''perfect conduct of elections'', former president Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said the onus of ensuring institutional integrity of the poll body lies with EC and it must put all speculation to rest. Mukherjee's statement comes amid reports of EVM tampering. There can be no room for speculations that challenges the very basis of our democracy, the former president said and added that people mandate is sacrosanct and has to be above any iota of reasonable doubt. A firm believer in our institutions, it is my considered opinion that it's the ''workmen'' who decide how the institutional ''tools'' perform, he added. Mukherjee expressed concern over alleged EVM tampering and said ''I am concerned over reports of alleged tampering of voters' verdict.'' Safety and security of EVMs is Election Commission's responsibility, he added. Election Commission is also under fire from opposition parties for being biased. Mukherjee on Monday lauded the role of the poll panel saying the 2019 Lok Sabha polls were conducted "perfectly". "You cannot criticise them, it was perfect conduct of elections," he said during a book launch. y Deepak Babaria on Tuesday alleged that “hacking EVMs is part of BJP’s poll strategy.” Speaking to reporters on Monday, Babaria alleged that the BJP “indulges in all kinds of manipulative practices” during counting. Claiming that EVM manipulation is part of BJP poll strategy, Babaria said: “They don’t do this everywhere, some places they leave as alibi like in Punjab. If they do it everywhere, they will get caught,” said Babaria, adding that even when the Congress got 114 seats in the assembly elections and formed government in the state, it had complained about the EVM machines. “They (BJP) thought they will win Bihar (assembly elections) because of the Modi wave, but we saw the results,” he said. “For this an entire department works in the BJP. A control room is also installed, it is said. Like election planning, they make hacking a part of the strategy. There are teams that work in shifts from 9 to 12, 12 to 3, 3 to 6 and so on. They study the seats and with RSS workers, they go about it,” alleged Babaria. As the counting day nears, several meetings of Congress office bearers, candidates and MLAs have been lined up at the PCC office here on Tuesday. Chief minster Kamal Nath and Babaria will chair the meetings. District party presidents and Congress ministers are also expected for the meeting. Also, a special training session will be held for workers on the counting methodology of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM)s and to keep a tab on the counting process. The training session on EVMs, to be held at 3pm on Tuesday, will make the Congress candidates and office-bearers vigilant. Nath will reach the PCC office at 10:30am and will pay homage to former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi on his death anniversary. At 11am, the chief minister will chair a meeting of party’s Lok Sabha candidates, followed by a meeting with party MLAs and ministers from 1pm.
