Hi Everyone! 💖 Sourdough Bread | First Time Making Sourdough Bread Have you jumped on the sourdough bandwagon yet? Let me know! My son's girlfriend Caitlin Carver and I were so excited to make this video for all of you out there who love bread and never had the courage to try making it from scratch! We are complete beginners and we would love to try to help you learn! It's a process and so much fun! It's definitely not difficult, actually making the starter is a totally fun and exciting process. You can either make one from scratch or use one from a friend! My friend Julie made me a loaf of sourdough as a gift and it was so incredibly delicious and she asked if I would like some starter so I could make my own. I actually told her that I really don't have time to make bread and that I shouldn't really be eating it. BUT, that all changed when I decided to give it a try! I am forever hooked! Sourdough has lots of natural fermentation, which makes it easily digestible and filled with good bacteria for your gut! Yay! Now that's a bread I can eat! It's super yummy & tasty! I ended up giving the starter to Caitlin because she wanted to make some sourdough, too and then she gave some back to me because she didn't have time to make it and we both became obsessed and here we are baking our first ever sourdough bread with "Fred" the starter that Julie gave me! Haha While Caitlin had "Fred" at her house growing more starter from him, I decided to make one from scratch and I named her "Stella". Apparently it's a thing and people really do that! It's been a labor of love starting a starter from scratch. It's really fun to see it transform in just a few weeks. It's really fun to have them join in! 💖🌸 Sourdough Bread Recipe 3 cups of all purpose flour 1 cup warm water (you can add up to 1/4 cup more if it's too dry) 1/2 cup sourdough starter (at least 2-3 weeks old) 1 1/2 tsp sea salt Mix flour and salt together in medium size glass bowl Mix warm water and starter together in measuring cup until somewhat dissolved Add the liquid to the dry ingredients & mix until a little sticky (ours were too dry....haha) Cover with a towel or plastic wrap & let rest for 30 minutes Put onto floured board and stretch & fold a few times (up to 8x) Transfer to parchment paper and place into glass bowl Cover & let rise for 2 hours (should double in size) or wait longer if it hasn't risen Preheat oven to 500 degrees with dutch oven or cast iron pan in the oven for 1 hour prior to baking When dough looks ready, then time to score. It can be simple or elaborate, whatever you like. We found patterns on Pinterest. Place in dutch oven or pan by picking up the parchment paper on opposite corners and place into pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes with lid on and 5-15 minutes with lid off. It's a masterpiece each and every time! Have fun and let your imagination be your guide!
