LeBron James is an American professional basketball player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio. His mother, Gloria Marie James, was just 16 years old when she gave birth to him and struggled to raise him on her own. LeBron's father, Anthony McClelland, was not involved in his upbringing. Growing up, LeBron developed a love for basketball and began playing at a young age. He attended St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, where he became a highly-touted basketball prospect. In his sophomore year, he led his team to a state championship and was named Ohio's Mr. Basketball. In 2003, LeBron was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers, becoming the youngest player to be drafted in NBA history at the time. He quickly established himself as one of the league's top players, earning Rookie of the Year honors in his first season. LeBron has played for several teams throughout his career, including the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers. He has won four NBA championships, four NBA Most Valuable Player awards, and two Olympic gold medals. Off the court, he is known for his philanthropy and activism, particularly in the areas of education and social justice. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 250 pounds, James is known for his incredible athleticism, strength, and speed on the basketball court. He has played in several different positions throughout his career, including point guard, shooting guard, small forward, and power forward. James began his professional career in 2003, when he was selected as the first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Draft. He played for the Cavaliers for several years, leading the team to their first-ever NBA Finals appearance in 2007. In 2010, James made the controversial decision to leave Cleveland and join the Miami Heat. He played with the Heat for four seasons, leading the team to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances and winning two NBA championships in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, James returned to Cleveland and led the team to their first-ever NBA championship in 2016, ending the city's 52-year championship drought. In 2018, James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he currently plays. Throughout his career, James has won numerous awards and accolades, including four NBA championships, four NBA MVP awards, and two Olympic gold medals. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time and is known for his philanthropic efforts off the court, including his work with the LeBron James Family Foundation.
