He was born on August 7, 1998, in Houston, Texas, and played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners. Hurts' football journey began in high school, where he was a standout quarterback at Channelview High School in Texas. He was a four-star recruit and committed to play college football at the University of Alabama. At Alabama, Hurts quickly made an impact, leading the team to the national championship game in his freshman season. He was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year in his sophomore season, but was benched in favor of Tua Tagovailoa in the 2018 national championship game. Despite losing his starting job, Hurts remained with the Alabama program and served as a backup to Tagovailoa in his junior season. He then transferred to the University of Oklahoma for his senior season, where he had a standout year, throwing for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushing for 1,298 yards and 20 touchdowns. In the 2020 NFL Draft, Hurts was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round. He began the season as the backup to starting quarterback Carson Wentz, but after Wentz struggled, Hurts was given an opportunity to start. In his first start against the New Orleans Saints, Hurts led the Eagles to an upset victory, throwing for 167 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 106 yards. He followed up that performance with another impressive showing against the Arizona Cardinals, throwing for 338 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort. Hurts' play during the 2020 season was a bright spot for the Eagles, who struggled overall and finished with a 4-11-1 record. He finished the season with 1,061 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, and 354 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Despite the team's struggles, Hurts' performance was enough to earn him the starting quarterback job heading into the 2021 season. He has shown continued improvement during the preseason and has earned praise from teammates and coaches alike for his work ethic and leadership. The rise of Jalen Hurts is a testament to his talent, hard work, and perseverance. He has overcome adversity at every level of his football career and has shown that he has the potential to be a star in the NFL.
