當年一聽「Starry,starry night…」，就令我開竅了！原來民歌可以那麼感人，那麼有深度。當哥哥在唱The Beatles初期的作品「…I love you, you love me…」，民謠詩人Don McLean已用這首如詩般的民歌介紹梵高，甚至透過這首歌讓我們認識什麼是印象派。 歌曲意念的深層意義，是對梵高一生潦倒寄予憐憫，對他沒人欣賞、沒人了解而感到惋惜。最後，梵高自殺身亡！就如歌詞所說，「Paint your palette blue and gray」，梵高從此便淹沒在他那藍灰色的畫板裏。 「With eyes that know the darkness in my soul」，像是帶大家走進梵高名作《星夜》（Starry Night）中，感受梵高在絕望中掙扎的孤獨無助。歌曲充分詮釋了梵高作品的獨有風格，描繪出如詩似畫的影像和色彩。 「Catch the breeze and the winter chills, in colors on the snowy linen land」，描寫冬天的微風和寒意、地面上輕鋪薄雪的景致，讓人彷彿親歷其境。「Swirling clouds in violet haze」，在朦朧的紫色薄霧裏旋轉的雲朵，是梵高標誌性的畫作。還有，「silver thorn, bloody rose, virgin snow…」，歌曲裏的色彩最後拼湊成梵高的人生畫板—灰色與藍色，沮喪與抑鬱。他的心事，有誰共鳴？難道就像這首歌的結尾所說，「…they’re not listening still.
