Statman Dave's video: Are Arsenal Actually Progressing Under Mikel Arteta

@Are Arsenal Actually Progressing Under Mikel Arteta?
Welcome back! Mikel Arteta has taken charge of more than 80 Premier League games for Arsenal which equates to just over two 38 game seasons so join me today as I answer the question: are Arsenal actually progressing under Mikel Arteta? ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube At the end of the 2018/19 Premier League, prior to Mikel Arteta’s arrival, Arsenal finished 5th meanwhile during Arteta’s reign, the Gunners have picked up the 5th most points in the Premier League (139). Looking at these numbers it’s easy to assume that there’s been little change under Arteta’s watch but during the Spaniard’s first season and a half, Arsenal have finished 8th, however this season there’s a few noticeable differences at the Emirates this season. Largely setting up in a 4-2-3-1 the biggest progression can be seen in areas that have had spending under Arteta. In the summer, Arsenal revamped their defence by signing Aaron Ramsdale in goal, Ben White to play alongside Gabriel, Tomiyasu at right back and Nuno Tavares to provide cover at left back and competition for Kieran Tierney. In midfield, Thomas Partey is also looking like a 50 million pound player this season. With these 6 deepest players, Arsenal are pretty set for the foreseeable future meanwhile in attack, Arteta has done some squad management, getting rid of wantaway captain Aubameyang and sharing attacking minutes between Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka. By massively reducing the average age of the squad, Arteta has already hugely increased the potential ceiling for his side whilst seeing very little drop off on the field. Already, this squad management is a sign of progression, signing players that fit Arteta’s style, offloading those who don’t and integrating talented youngsters. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch There’s also been noticeable improvements on the field too. Arteta has tweaked his 3-2-3-2 attacking structure in favour of a more attacking 2-3-5 as Thomas Partey is operating more like a single pivot in possession. Without the ball there’s a change too. In Arteta’s first months in charge, his Arsenal side pressed intensely all over the pitch but this season especially has seen the Gunners become more reserved, preferring to restrict the opposition and push them away from Aaron Ramsdale’s goal. Meanwhile if they can force the opposition close to their own goal, Arsenal will return to an intense, man to man press. This has proved very effective, with scoring 6 times as many goals on the counter attack this season when compared to last. There has been an increase in individual errors but this is a very young side and that’s to be expected but it offers another area for Arteta to improve and progress further. Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips Arsenal aren’t making dramatic improvements but they are steadily improving under Mikel Arteta. This season there are a number of metrics that Arsenal rank 4th in the Premier League behind Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea, the three, by far, best teams in the league. But if the Gunners can upgrade Granit Xhaka and sign a relatively young goalscorer under 25 to play up front they’ll be well on their way to bridging the gap between themselves and the top 3. But anyway guys what do you think? Are Arsenal actually progressing under Arteta or do they need a change to break into the top 4? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
