@How Ibrahimović & Pioli Have Turned AC Milan into Title Challengers Again | Tactics Explained
Welcome back guys! Today we’ll be talking about Serie A league leaders AC Milan and taking a look at Stefano Pioli’s tactics. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube This season, Stefano Pioli has set AC Milan up in a wide 4-2-3-1. They’re a pragmatic, counter attacking team that do their best work when their opposition commit bodies forward and they can attack the space in behind with their pacey wingers. Without the ball Milan deploy an aggressive man to man press in a 4-4-2, with their front four applying the majority of the pressure. However the nature of a man to man press is that it will change depending on the opposition’s shape. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch With the ball, Milan focus on attacking down the flanks. Usually attacking down one flank to see if they can create an opening. If not, they look to switch it through defence or midfield before hitting the other flank. They rinse and repeat this until they can create a good opportunity, usually coming from a dribble and a cross to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.Zlatan is arguably the most complete, complete forward of the modern game. Although for Pioli’s Milan, Ibrahimovic operates more like a traditional target man, using his size and physicality to control long passes before linking with his teammates. ► JOIN PATREON: https://bit.ly/StatmanPatreon AC Milan’s midfield has been a joy to watch this season. Against weaker opposition Kessie tends to be the more advanced box to box player with Bennacer dropping deep and Calhanoglu filling in for the Algerian however against the better sides, Kessie plays a more withdrawn role and they build with a double pivot. Kessie has an interesting skill set and is more than comfortable as a six, eight or ten. Against the weaker sides, Kessie will position himself in the left half space and either look to receive and carry or get himself into the box to become a goal threat. Whilst against the stronger sides, Pioli has Kessie operating as a deep ball winning midfielder providing protection for Milan’s defence.
